Our Pathways program endeavours to provide our girls with the skills they need for their future beyond the gates of St Columba’s College. We aim to upskill, challenge, discuss and offer subject advice through our student career development programs.
The Pathways Centre is open from 8:15am to 4:30pm from Monday to Thursday and until 4:00pm Friday. Students are encouraged to arrange an appointment in person or by email. Parents are also welcomed to call the College to make an appointment with a Pathways Advisor.

The VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) is the most commonly accepted way to gain entry to a tertiary or advanced certificate course. A VCE program is a set of semester units undertaken over a minimum period of two years. Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 16 units that may include an unlimited number of units of VET and:
  • 3 units of English - must include units 3 and 4
  • 3 other units - 3/4 sequences
Tertiary institutions and employers frequently require specific courses to be included in a Year 12 program. You are advised to consult tertiary program information and the Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre before choosing VCE courses.

St Columba’s College also offers the VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) and VET programs, which provide additional pathways for Years 11 and 12 students seeking vocationally oriented career options such as apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training or moving on to employment.
VCAL provides students with a flexible approach to their education and training. It aims to provide the skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable students to make informed choices regarding work and further education. Students can study some VCE and VET units as part of their VCAL program. Currently, St Columba’s offers the following VET programs:
  • VET Legal Administration (delivered at St Columba’s College)
  • VET Multimedia (Kangan TAFE)
  • VET Clothing Concepts and Design (Kangan TAFE)
  • VET Community Services (Kangan TAFE)
  • VET Hospitality (William Angliss)

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), handles student applications for tertiary courses and processes offers made by tertiary institutions. VTAC does not make any selections or decide who will be offered a position within a course but passes on information to students from participating educational institutions. VTAC calculates and issues ATAR scores for VCE students, publishes a guide of available tertiary courses and administers the application process. State and National Privacy legislation restricts the release of the ATAR and VTAC course application to the individual student.
VTAC Preference Counselling
Every Year 12 student meets twice a year with one of the Careers Advisors. The meeting may include a discussion of their tertiary preferences, the importance of ATAR scores, Early Entry Programs, SEAS applications, prerequisites and additional requirements.
